Poufs & Floor Cushions

I know it's been said time and again but, really, how did we manage before the internet? Before Google? Before blogs? My quest for a great floor cushion or pouf for our newly remodeled basement began quite simply and it didn't take long before I found an abundance of floor cushion choices. In my search, I thought I'd share a few fantastic poufs or floor cushions that I found along the way. My criteria was: dark(ish) in color, washable, durable, modern and at least 2' wide and affordable. Ta-da! In about an hour of pouf-searching, I bought the gray one in the upper left hand corner from a fabulous & inspiring little business called Mookah. Springtree Road

This post has been a very long time coming. Finally! I'm setting a little patch of time aside to tell you all about Maya's handspun yarns but it's been worth the wait, trust me! If you've never read Maya's blog, Springtree Road, you're missing out on a little bit of sunshine. Maya and I have been blogger friends for a while now and though we've never met, Maya is one of those people whose warmth radiates through her words - I wish I had that talent! She was one of my biggest cheerleaders when I opened my Etsy shop a year ago and I'm forever grateful for her support. So, several months ago, Maya bought her very own spinning wheel and has been vigorously churning out hand-dyed and handspun yarn which naturally led her to open an Etsy shop, Springtree Road! (fans are cheering!). The colors are radiant and the yarn practically looks edible! I haven't a clue how to knit but I know there are plenty of talented knitters out there and with chilly weather on our heels, I imagine knitting scarves and sweaters are what comes to mind. Congratulations, Maya!

I couldn't go without mentioning one of Maya's first customers, Brandy Jaggers, who bought her yarn and made these delicately gorgeous props for babies to wear in her photographs. I don't think I've seen anything more precious, really...have you? I wish I had gotten photos of my girls like these when they were newborns. Anne-Claire Petit Crocheted Clock

Once you become familiar with Anne-Claire Petit's things you can almost spot her beautiful designs a mile away. Her style is very distinct in that everything she does is cheerful and has a handmade quality to them, usually crocheted. I wrote about her hand-crocheted dachshunds about a year ago but now I've got to mention her hand-crocheted cuckoo clock made from mostly organic cotton -- which reminds me of a funny story that my mother likes to tell about my younger brother when he was about 4 years old: Apparently he woke up quite early and tugged on our wooden cuckoo clock's chain. My incredibly mellow brother (still is) quietly went back to bed after this early-morning mishap and didn't make a peep. The only evidence was the broken cuckoo clock on the floor and an egg-sized bump on Chris's forehead. At the time, it probably wasn't as funny as it seems today. I can't help but smile when I see this soft cuckoo clock...

Hand Crochet Alpaca Butterflies

I must admit that I love the look of those framed butterfly collections but I've never been able to get beyond the fact that it was once a beautiful, living creature -- I would probably feel guilty and sad if I actually hung one on my wall. So, what to my surprise do I see? Hand crocheted Alpaca Butterflies by Oeuf! Aren't they just wonderful? Beautifully hand-crocheted butterflies to mimic the real thing so you can display them right next to the Cardboard Safari's Moose Head for that guilt-free wildnerness effect.

I grew up with dachshunds and have this secret infinity for the short-legged little buggers. Anne-Claire Petit Dachshunds are all hand-crocheted and very, very sweet.

Crochet!

I love to peruse Etsy every so often but have yet to buy anything; however, I've got plenty of items saved in my Favorites area. I'm always amazed at the creativity out there! I discovered these little crocheted hats by pdxbeanies about a month ago and have been thinking about them ever since. They also make adorable Mary Janes, also adorned with that sweet flower! And a LOT of different colors to choose from. Guess what I'm going to buy for my youngest daughter, CV, today...finally?
